Visa ratio
Visa’s VAMP ratio, and how to get under the 1.5% line
Since 1 April 2026, a merchant in the US, Canada, Europe and Asia-Pacific with 1,500 or more disputes and fraud reports in a month is excessive at 1.5%, down from 2.2%, and processors can act well before that. Check where you stand, watch it for free, or switch on the tools that bring it down, with a guarantee.

The ratio here is disputes divided by transactions. Networks define the exact window and measure slightly differently, so treat this as an early-warning number.
You’re approaching the threshold. A few more disputes in a month could cross it. Prevention is cheaper than recovery now.

The 1.50% Visa threshold is the one our guides quote. Programs and thresholds change; confirm the current terms with your processor.
Disputes over transactions for one month. Visa adds fraud reports to the disputes, so its number can be higher. The calculator also lives at /tools/dispute-ratio.
What VAMP counts
What goes into Visa’s number.
- 01
VAMP, Visa's Acquirer Monitoring Program, replaced its dispute and fraud monitoring programs (VDMP and VFMP) on 1 June 2025, with an advisory period up to 30 September 2025.
Source - 02
Visa's ratio is fraud reports (TC40) plus disputes (TC15), over settled card-not-present transactions (TC05), for one calendar month.
Source - 03
A sale with both a fraud report and a dispute counts twice: the formula adds the two counts.
Source - 04
Disputes settled by pre-dispute tools (RDR, CDRN) are left out, and so are fraud reports that qualified for Compelling Evidence 3.0, both depending on the timing of Visa's data extract.
Source - 05
A dispute or fraud report counts in the month Visa received it, not the month of the sale.
Source - 06
Acquirers are measured across their whole portfolio at 0.5% and 0.7%. Those lines are the acquirer's, not yours, and they are why a processor may act well before Visa's merchant line.

The line, by region
Excessive at 1.5%.
A merchant is excessive when it is at or over the line and past the monthly count of disputes and fraud reports, both in the same month.
| Where | Line | A month | When |
|---|---|---|---|
| The US, Canada, Europe and Asia-Pacific | 2.2% | 1,500 or more | 1 June 2025 to 31 March 2026 |
| The US, Canada, Europe and Asia-Pacific | 1.5% | 1,500 or more | From 1 April 2026 |
| Latin America and the Caribbean | 1.5% | 1,500 or more | From 1 June 2025 |
| Central Europe, the Middle East and Africa | 2.2% | 150 or more and $75,000 | From 1 June 2025 |
Over the line, Visa charges about $8 for each dispute and fraud report. It charges the acquirer, which can pass it on to you. That figure is from secondary sources (TabaPay, Checkout.com; older ones say $10), so ask your acquirer for theirs. Visa watches card testing separately, on authorizations: 300,000 or more enumerated authorizations and 20% of all of them in a month. The lines come from Visa’s VAMP fact sheet.

Every store using Zevron for disputes gets a Visa ratio page: each processor’s ratio for the month so far and all of them together, the gap to Visa’s line and to any stricter limit your processor holds you to, a month-end forecast with a range, and warnings by email, Slack and in the app at 50%, 75%, 90% of your line. Where a processor doesn’t tell us which card paid, or sends no fraud reports, the page says so. It costs nothing, and it stays free.

The guarantee. If your ratio for your second full month on it isn't lower than for the month you started, that month's fee is credited. If there isn’t enough data to compare the two months, that month isn’t charged.
Monthly, billed by the day with your other fees, cancel any time. No free trial: the guarantee is how you try it. Alerts stay billed per alert as today, and dispute and recovery fees don't change.
It’s offered on your Visa ratio page once your ratio passes 50% of your line, with your own numbers: the ratio, the forecast and the plan your volume fits. Starting it is one click for the store’s owner or an admin, once billing is approved.
Does winning a dispute lower my ratio?
Not by winning it. Visa counts a dispute in the month it receives it, whatever the outcome. What lowers the ratio is fewer disputes and fraud reports in the first place, or disputes settled before they count.
Do pre-dispute alerts help?
Yes, in two ways. Visa leaves out disputes settled through Rapid Dispute Resolution (RDR), and an Ethoca or CDRN alert you refund before the customer's bank files never becomes a dispute at all.
Is the 1.5% line the only one that matters?
No. Visa's line applies to a merchant past its monthly count, and acquirers are measured across their whole portfolio at lower lines, so your processor can act well before 1.5%. If your processor has given you a lower number, set it on your Visa ratio page and the warnings follow it.
What does Get under the line cost?
$299 a month up to 5,000 orders a month; $599 a month up to 25,000 orders a month; $999 a month over 25,000 orders a month. Billed by the day with your other fees, and you can stop it any time. Alerts are billed per alert as today; dispute and recovery fees don't change.
How does the guarantee work?
If your ratio for your second full month on it isn't lower than for the month you started, that month's fee is credited. We compare the two months' ratios as your Visa ratio page shows them. If one of the months has no ratio to compare (no transactions to divide by), that month isn't charged. The guarantee counts from your first start.
Is the monitor really free?
Yes. Every store using Zevron for disputes gets the Visa ratio page and its warnings at 50%, 75%, 90% of its line, whether or not it ever starts the package.
