Delivery proof for subscription boxes: the carrier records that win not-received disputes

What counts as proof
| Record | How strong | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Carrier delivered scan with timestamp and location | Strong | From the carrier’s own system or tracking page, not your summary. |
| Delivery to the order’s address | Strong | The bank compares it to the address on the order. |
| Signature or delivery photo | Strongest | Worth it for higher-value shipments. |
| Fulfillment record listing the items | Needed | Shows what was in the box. Important for partial-delivery claims. |
| Tracking number alone | Weak | A label created or in transit is not delivery. |
The argument
- The order shipped to the address the cardholder provided.
- The carrier recorded delivery at that address, with timestamp and scan location.
- The cardholder did not contact support about a missing package, or support resolved it.
The full response structure is in the guides for Visa 13.1, Mastercard 4855 and Amex C08.
Practices that make delivery provable
- Validate the address at checkout and let subscribers update it from the renewal reminder.
- Send a tracking email for every box, not just the first.
- Choose a carrier service that records a delivery scan with location for every shipment.
- Consider signature or photo proof above a value threshold.
- Keep the carrier records. Carrier tracking pages expire, so save the proof of delivery when the box arrives.
What loses a winnable case
- Delivery to an address that doesn’t match the order.
- A tracking record that shows only a label created.
- Proof of delivery dated after the dispute was filed.
- A lost or returned package. Refund it, claim against the carrier and fix the address issue.
Questions
What proof of delivery wins a not-received dispute?
The carrier’s delivered scan with timestamp and location, to the address on the order, plus a fulfillment record of what shipped.
Is a tracking number enough?
No. The bank wants proof of delivery at the right address, not that a label was created.
Do I need a signature?
Not usually, but signature or photo proof strengthens higher-value shipments.
