Zevron vs Stripe Smart Disputes: the fee, the evidence, the coverage

Side by side

Statements about Stripe Smart Disputes are from Stripe’s own public pages, listed under Sources. Where we didn’t find something, we say so rather than say it isn’t offered.

Pricing as publishedYour first 10 disputes are free. After that we charge 15% of what we recover, and nothing when we lose. No monthly fee, no setup fee, no contract.“Smart Disputes fee 30%” “of the disputed amount for each dispute you win.” “There’s no Smart Dispute fee for lost disputes. The dispute received fee still applies.” source 2
Stripe’s own dispute feesStripe’s fees apply as they would without us: the $15 dispute received fee, and the $15 countered fee when a response is filed, which Stripe returns if the dispute is won. We triage first and recommend accepting the disputes that aren’t worth fighting.Dispute received fee $15.00 “for each dispute you receive”; dispute countered fee $15.00 “for each dispute you respond to manually”, returned for won disputes. “The new dispute counter fee will be waived when a dispute is countered with Smart Disputes.” source 2, source 4
Which disputesEvery dispute on a connected processor is read and triaged. The ones worth fighting get a response; you see why the rest aren’t.“We determine Smart Disputes eligibility using multiple factors, including the dispute reason code, payment method, evidence availability, evidence relevance, and cost.” source 1
EvidenceReads the plan from Shopify selling plans, then adds cancellation logs, cancel-flow sessions and renewal reminders from connected tools, and records checkout consent through an events API. Support threads, delivery scans and product usage come from the tools you connect.“It extracts relevant evidence from Stripe internal data, your transaction data, and cardholder data.” We didn’t find subscription apps, support desks or shipping carriers named as sources on the pages we reviewed. source 1
FilingEvery claim in a response cites a source record. A separate checker blocks any claim without one, and a person reviews anything unusual. Filed before the deadline. If we miss one we received with two days or more to go, the disputed amount (up to $500) goes on your credit balance.“If you don’t take any action, Smart Disputes automatically submits the pre-filled evidence packet just before the dispute times out.” “You can turn off auto-submit in your Dashboard settings.” source 1

Who each is for

Consider Stripe Smart Disputes if

Stripe-only businesses whose disputes Stripe’s own payment data already answers, who want nothing extra to connect, and who are comfortable giving up 30% of each win.

Consider Zevron if

Subscription businesses whose winning evidence lives outside Stripe (cancellation logs, renewal reminders, support threads, logins, delivery scans), or who also sell through Shopify or PayPal, and want to keep more of each win.

Where Zevron is behind

  • On Stripe, a response Zevron files counts as countering, so Stripe’s $15 countered fee applies; Stripe returns it when the dispute is won. Smart Disputes waives it, so on a lost dispute that fee is a real cost of using us.
  • Smart Disputes is already in your Stripe Dashboard. Zevron is one more connection to set up.
  • Zevron is newer, and doesn’t yet have a public track record. We’ll publish results by dispute reason once we have enough decided cases.
  • Zevron lists fewer integrations. Other processors work by forwarded email or CSV, which is more manual.
  • Zevron doesn’t score orders for fraud before they ship. It works on disputes and prevention reporting.
  • Zevron doesn’t yet hold a SOC 2 report. See the trust page for what we do today.

Questions

Isn’t Smart Disputes free?

Not on a win. Stripe’s pricing page lists a Smart Disputes fee of 30% of the disputed amount for each dispute you win, and none on lost disputes. Zevron’s fee is 15% of what we recover, and your first 10 disputes are free. Stripe’s $15 dispute received fee applies either way.

Which costs less?

On a win, Zevron: 15% against 30%. On a loss, Smart Disputes: it waives Stripe’s $15 countered fee, which applies when we file and isn’t returned on a loss. On a $100 dispute, a win costs $15 with Zevron and $30 with Smart Disputes; a loss costs $15 with Zevron and nothing extra with Smart Disputes. The more you win and the larger your disputes, the further ahead Zevron is.

Can I use both?

Not on the same dispute: Stripe takes one submission per dispute. Turn off Smart Disputes auto-submit for the cases Zevron handles, so the two don’t both file.
